The Salmon River Clinic is a rural health clinic in Stanley, Idaho, which is located 60 miles from the nearest hospital and health care facilities. The Stanley Ambulance is staffed wholly by local volunteers (about 25) and is arguably the most important service in the community. Our mission is “to provide quality primary and emergency care to the residents of and visitors to the Sawtooth Valley”. Our values are: kindness, respect, integrity, compassion and privacy.
The clinic is open 6 days a week during the summer (Memorial Day-Labor Day) and 3 days a week during the off season. We receive tax support to offset the cost of operating during the slower winter months but our tight budget does not leave much room for improvements and upgrades. We propose to use the funds from the Sawtooth Music Festival to support our emergency services by building a structure for and installing a generator, which will make the clinic operational during a power outage (frequent in this part of the country), and will allow it to be used as a warm shelter if there were to be a community emergency. This will also keep the ambulance bay accessible and ambulance ready for emergencies during a power outage.
Our local clinician is Amy Klingler, a Physician Assistant and our administrative assistant is Sarah Mannix. Our medical director and visiting physician is Richard Paris, MD. We are governed by a local board of directors made up of 7 community members.
